God I'm Busy -- Preface
How This Book Will Help You
What if it were true that God has been very active in your lives, intervening on your behalf, blessing you, and speaking to you, but you either didn’t hear it or couldn’t remember it? For the majority of you this is true. You need to be freed from something you didn’t even know had you captive. You need to be freed from The Big Gray Swirl.
The Big Gray Swirl is a culture of busyness in an environment of distractions which distorts your perception of time and prevents you from fully recognizing or remembering the words, experiences, and directions from God.
The result is weakened faith and very few if any stories of God’s faithfulness have been recorded and ready to pass along to your children and grandchildren.
I will show you that while you’re capable of hearing and remembering your interactions with God, your high speed, high tech culture is usually preventing you from doing so. The more you fail to hear or remember your experiences with God, the more likely you will experience doubt and unbelief. If when you go through tough times, you do not recognize and chronicle the faithfulness of God in the midst of your difficulty, you will tend to get frustrated, bitter, fearful and depressed. You will recall and relive your wounds rather than your victories. Additionally, you will not have those experiences, ready to pass along to your children to strengthen their faith.
As ridiculous as it first seemed, scientists eventually proved black holes do exist. They did it by proving where light should be seen in space but nothing was there. Likewise, there is a level of faith and intimacy with God we should experience and share with others, that isn’t there. I will show you the unseen reason why.
Busyness and Distractions
If life seems to be flying by and you are rushing around fighting distractions with little time for recognizing God in the midst of your day and certainly no method for easily recalling all the times God specifically interacts with you, then you’re caught in The Big Gray Swirl. If you follow the suggestions in this book, it will change your life significantly.
Generational Transfer
Once your life begins to calm down, with less rushing around and fewer distractions, you will be ready to start depositing stories in your “faith bank” for the purpose of passing them on to your children. I call this a generational transfer.
All too often when we speak of an inheritance, we are speaking of money, property or material things. I inherited my grandmother’s bibles and books. While I value my grandmother’s bibles and books, I don’t have stories of her experiences and life-lessons, in her own words. That would be a priceless heirloom I would own, hold and pass along to my children and grand children.
We read the stories of Jonah and the whale, David and Goliath, Gideon’s army and Jericho. Those stories reveal the nature of God, because they are scripture. Having said that, I envision a day when along with those stories, children will have books of their parents’ and grandparents’ stories of God’s faithfulness in their time.
I am creating a simple, easy-to-use tool for better capturing your victories, life-lessons and stories of God’s faithfulness. I discuss this tool at the end of the book in appendix three, entitled, A Vision of the Future.
